Mother Blessing

I attended my first Mother Blessing yesterday. I was a bit apprehensive about the gathering. I wasn’t at all sure what to expect. But it was quite lovely. We each brought the mother a flower (in our case, the origami bouquet), a seed, a bead and a candle. The flowers were woven into a head dress. The seed symbolized the growth of the family. The beads were strung into a necklace to be worn during labour. The candles would be lit during the labour to symbolize all the support network (friends and family). We each had an opportunity to share our thoughts with the mother. I was quite touched by the strength of the mother’s support network. I hope I’m as lucky one day.
